Horse modeling originated in the United States in the 1950s with the Breyer brand, which produced its first plastic horses for collectors. Enthusiasts quickly began customizing, painting, and displaying them, transforming a simple toy into a true miniature art form. In the 1970s and 80s, the hobby became more structured with the emergence of competitions, clubs, and associations.

In the 1990s and 2000s, thanks to the internet, equestrian modeling expanded internationally and found fertile ground in Europe. Brands like Schleich in Germany democratized the hobby, and other European manufacturers such as Papo and Bullyland further enriched the offerings.

Today, equestrian modeling brings together a community of artists, collectors, and enthusiasts, blending art, realism, and equestrian culture. The French scene has also developed around AMEC (Association du Modélisme Équin et Cie francophone), the only association dedicated to the hobby, which organizes events, promotes handcrafted creations, and supports the French-speaking community.
